How To: Summer to Fall

I'm a proponent of investing in pieces that can carry you from one season to another; pieces that don't have to actually be packed back into suitcases or tucked away in the depths of your closet at the slightest turn of the weather. That's why you always hear me harping on about transitional season pieces.

The key to keeping a minimal wardrobe going into the colder months and not stretching your budget too far? Find a timeless design, crafted in a mid-weight fabric that is appropriate for both the transition from summer to fall, winter to spring. I've picked out a handful of transitional pieces from our summer sale. Not only will you be able to wear these for the many months ahead of us, but you'll also be able to whip it back out once the spring hits again next year. They're also marked down. Win-win!

This is my top pick. If you're feeling like your current fall wardrobe needs a little refreshing, then this is the perfect piece to add just enough excitement.

I love how the earthy tones of these stripes work in harmony with almost every neutral color so you should be able to easily match this with existing wardrobe staples. You'll see me pairing here throughout this story with cream, olive, gray, brown..and black would work well too!

The weight is appropriate for all seasons. And when the colder days roll around, you can get away with a thin layer of tights underneath, thanks to the roomy fit through the leg. Pop on a cropped sweater and some ankle boots for a fall ready look.

I'm a sucker for a good button down shirt. It's a triple threat. Wear it as is (see previous look), use it as a light short sleeve jacket, or as a layering piece to add a smart collar under your sweaters in the fall. This one is made with a heavy textual linen fabric, which will set it apart from any others in your wardrobe and is a delight to wear.

A long sweeping maxi length coat does wonders. It turns a simple outfit into a showstopper. You've heard me talk about how much I love this Spring Lapel Overcoat. It was included in our Spring Starter Kit to help you transition from winter to spring, and guess what? It works just as well as a summer to fall overcoat.

Roomy yet structured, great for layering, can easily be stretched into early winter if you get strategic with your layering. We've only got a handful of these left in the sale!

Here's another piece I introduced earlier this season in the Spring Starter Kit that also works well for the many months ahead. It has been my absolute favorite work horse this season and I don't see myself packing it away any time soon.

This crisp cotton is substantial yet light and I never have to be delicate with it - which is great, especially considering the fact that it's off-white too! I can see myself easily pairing this with any of my forever sweaters, or fall/winter coat in ANY color. Here are a few looks I've put together in anticipation for the fall using a sweater from eons ago!

I saved the best for last. This V-Neck long sleeve top has got the perfect drape and ease for a WFH day in any season. It pairs well with almost all bottoms...jeans, wide-legged, tapered trousers...even shorts.

It also layers well with coats of any weight and is crafted out of the same heavy textual linen fabric as the Cropped Button Down. My favorite detail is the fringing along hem line and cuff. WFH days have never felt cozier.
